AQI vs Yrs lost — AQI is the worst sub-index across 7 pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, NO₂, SO₂, CO, O₃, NH₃), so a station can be "Very Poor" from ozone alone. Yrs lost is based only on PM2.5 (the Air Quality Life Index from Greenstone et al. / Ebenstein et al. 2017 PNAS studies PM2.5 specifically). A station can be "Poor" by AQI yet have higher Yrs lost than a "Very Poor" one when its PM2.5 dominates. Both are reported here so you can see the gap. Methodology & caveats →
